About

I'm Claire and I write WW2 historical fiction and feel-good books with a touch of romance.
When writing historical fiction, I look for a snippet of something that actually happened to use as inspiration and then craft a story and characters around it. I’m fascinated by the countless tales of ordinary people who did extraordinary things, both abroad and at home. Historical fiction has a unique power to breathe life into history, and I hope my books add to that in some small way.
My goal with my contemporary fiction is to write the kind of feel-good books I enjoy reading. I’m a fan of small towns, cosy coffee shops, and unashamedly optimistic stories. I’m also a sucker for a pretty cover and a festive setting.
Being a writer, it’s probably obvious that I’m a bookworm, too. You can find details of my favourite books and what I’m reading on my book blog.
Other random things about me . . . I live in Edinburgh with my husband and daughter. If you were to scroll through the camera roll on my phone, you’d see a mosaic of mouth-watering food, captivating books, and stunning Scottish beaches.
